Your telegram No. 116 [of May 30. re Kowloon and Soochow-Ningpo Railways]
We have telegraphed to British and Chinese Corporation that Chinese Govt. intend to appoint negotiator Canton-Kowloon Railway, but not Soochow-Ningpo line. He considers acquiescence further delay dangerous.
Unless you object we have given Corporation intimation of your telegram and said that Trimmer's suggestion does not appear unreasonable and that we consider it advisable to press for immediate appointment of negotiator for Soochow line, we think it better to deal with Kowloon first, and leave Board Chinese Govt. time to persuade... Chekiang
